Jim qualified as a teacher from Craigie College, Ayr in 1977, having specialised in Speech & Drama and English Literature.
He worked in various prinary schools across Ayrshire always with a keen interest in schools' and youth Speech & Drama, taking pupils to many schools and youth festivals in the West of Scotland.
He retired early three years ago from his post as headteacher of a primary school in Kilwinning, Ayrshire and can tell you better stories about the 'Ayrshire's Burgh of Culture' than Tom Shields ever did in the Glasgow Herald!
Jim has worked in Ayrshire's drama community for almost forty years, playing and directing with several clubs in one-act plays to full-length productions and musicals.
Jim is from Mauchline, Ayrshire and has a real love of Burns and Scottish poetry.  His experience and knowledge of Robert Burns' poetry has allowed him to participate in Burns suppers and adjudicate Burns verse speaking festivals.
He has been adjudicating for more than twenty years, travelling across Scotland to all points of the compass, working on full-length and one-act play festivals in addition to schools speech festivals.
